We define journalism as the ethical collection, production, and distribution of information, aimed at empowering citizens to fully participate in society.
Our primary goal is to report news and inform the public. In this pursuit, we commit to upholding the freedoms intrinsic to democracy, human rights, and the diversity of opinions.
We understand that the power of the press comes with significant responsibility. Therefore, we strive to ensure our journalists maintain professionalism while safeguarding their independence in investigation and reporting.
Through our content, we aim to prompt readers to reflect on and understand the implications of the rapidly changing world. We also focus on educating and informing our community, not only through journalism but by fostering dialogue with various stakeholders, including businesses, policymakers, and community groups, grounded in facts and rigorous analysis.
OLAFAQ's work is based on four main pillars of ethical journalism:
Ethical Practice: Upholding accuracy, independence, impartiality, fairness, and respect.
Our journalistic principles include:
Ensuring accuracy and fact-based reporting;
Maintaining independence from political, corporate, or other influences;
Adopting impartiality in reporting and editing;
Practicing fairness and considering the impact of our work on individuals and communities
Good Governance: Ensuring editorial independence through transparent management and ownership.
We are committed to high standards of governance that safeguard editorial independence through transparent management and ownership structures. We adhere to principles of transparency and accountability, regularly reviewing and auditing our practices to uphold human rights, equality, and contractual obligations.
Self-Regulation: Developing internal systems to uphold ethical standards and address public feedback.
We enhance awareness of editorial ethics through codes of conduct and guidelines. Our commitment to self-regulation includes appointing an editorial manager to handle public feedback and aligning with industry and national bodies that promote ethical journalism.
Public Engagement: Building trust through active dialogue with the audience, addressing concerns, and implementing suggestions.
We actively engage with the public to build trust in journalism. We provide platforms for audience interaction, including commenting, providing feedback, and suggesting improvements. We maintain transparent systems for addressing public complaints and, when necessary, offering remedies.
