2. Editorial Mission
2.1. Editorial Mission Statement
The Media Outlet shall disclose its editorial mission statement which shall be consistent with the fundamental ethical principles of trustworthy journalism, and, as described in the Preamble, should incorporate principles of: ethical practice, good governance, self-regulation and Engagement with the public. A Media Outlet shall set out how it proposes to uphold these journalism principles through its Editorial Guidelines and processes which shall include arrangements in relation to internal accountability and of appropriate external accountability (see clauses 9 – 15). Best practice is to have these arrangements codified and made available publicly.

Media has grown manifold in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Hundreds of newspapers, television channels, and online portals are beaming news 24x7 in the two Telugu states.
However, in the cluttered media space, the common man has become a casualty in both Telugu states. There is always a narrative woven around political ideologies and corporate interests. Common man’s needs, aspirations, and expectations take a back seat.
Keeping the common man’s needs and interests in mind, we launched NewsMeter, India’s first satellite journalism portal with a separate fact check unit.
We realize that fake news hits the common man the most. Hundreds of youth have fallen victim to fake news and online slander. We at NewsMeter have taken a pledge to rid society of the fake news menace. NewsMeter is a member of the International Fact-Checking Network (IFCN).
For us, the news is not a sellable commodity. For us, reporting is not to remain in the good books of who is who. For us, reflecting the ground reality is not to make our presence felt.
We at NewsMeter tread a path less traveled. We have no hesitation to say that we are representatives of the poor and marginalized. We report the truth no matter how bitter it is. That is why we reported from no-go areas of two Telugu states. Our reporters were at ground zero when Hyderabad was hit by floods. Our reporters went deep into the tribal areas, which had remained off the radar. Unmindful of health risks, our reporters covered the Andhra Pradesh gas tragedy from ground zero. We reported crimes against women from every angle. We investigated political-criminal nexus. We broke drug smuggling stories. We reported human rights abuses regardless of who the victim was. We stood up against tyranny.
We strongly believe in `truth, the only truth, and nothing but the truth'. Our pen will do the talking. Our actions will speak louder than words. Rest assured, we will remain steadfast in our commitment. Our editorial freedom will remain uncompromised and our integrity shall remain unscathed.
